Social Innovation Japan (SIJ) is a non-profit organization founded in August, 2005 to promote “Social Innovation” (solving social problems by developing innovative socially aware products & services and business processes to generate them) and cultivate “Social Entrepreneurs” while providing them with the open platform to expand their network.　Headed by a prominent social business and CSR research leader, Professor Kanji Tanimoto as the chairperson, SIJ’s board of directors is comprised of Japan’s leading social entrepreneurs. SIJ’s diverse members are those who are interested in this field.

The missions of SIJ are:
　1) to support social entrepreneurs and cultivate social business
      SIJ as the new type of intermediary organization gathers and matches social
      entrepreneurs and people who are interested in social business, and
      promotes communication among them.  It also develops and cultivates 
      social entrepreneurs, and promotes social business.
　2) to assist business entities in developing socially responsible business
      SIJ also serves business entities to develop socially responsible business.
      Nowadays a lot of companies are engaged to CSR activities, and the advanced
      CSR activities, such as cause-marketing, social business and strategic CSR-
      communication, are to be developed as the next step.
